Gone are the days where small to medium sized businesses can no longer compete with big brand names. Social media allows even the smallest of companies to get their messages out to the masses…fast! With little to no up front costs, you can create your social online presence in no time.
With the amount of social platforms available to us today, you can quickly become overwhelmed. First and foremost, you need to create a strategic marketing plan in order to be successful. Do some research to find out where your ideal customer is and start there. It is better to excel at one to two platforms instead of having minimal presence on all of them.
Below is an infographic that I found that compares coffee to the major social media platforms.

The average user spends three hours a day on social media. As the graphic shows, there are millions of people using these platforms every day.
It’s important now more than ever to create a strategic plan and engage with your audience! Failing to do so can make you miss out on potential sales.
Social media is not a ‘one size fits all’ marketing tool. Again, you need to find out where your ideal customer is most active and start there. Do your research to find out where your competitors are hanging out. This will give you great insight as to where you should begin.
Creating sales on social media will take time so don’t expect overnight results. Depending on what products and services you have to offer, you might not see a return on your investment for 3 months, or 6, or even 9 to 12 months.
As a rule of thumb, it is best to create a 80/20 strategy. This means that 80 percent of the time you should be providing content and useful information to your audience; 20 percent can be highlighting your products and/or services. Coming across as a ‘pushy salesman’ will potentially turn future customers away…quickly!
Consistency and engagement are key in building your fan base, and you should plan on interacting daily.
